Forza 6 vs. Real Life

So, despite my lack of actual spare time for video games, I still got Forza 6.

The cars new to Forza are splendidly modelled, just look at the LaFerrari and the Mac P1. However, the cars carried over from previous games did not seem to get completely new models. The old models were given detail updates, but the proportional inaccuracies are still there.

Of course, I went straight to a car that I am familiar with, the Ferrari F355 which I had played in Forza 4. Here is the FM6 model that I attempted to capture with the same angle as a pic of the real thing:

The roofline and windows didn’t get captured correctly; as a result the roof looks too flat and the window lines don’t flow as gently as in the real car.

The front bumper grille is fairly accurate, but the running/signal lamps next to it are too large and the lens is too transparent (the real car has the typical 1990s serrated-diffusion plastic lens which appears rather opaque from a distance). The game used a non-US-spec car, and the exterior lighting differences from my real US-spec car are pretty accurate.

Also, the game identifies it as a “1994 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta,” even though the car modelled is clearly a 1998-99 355 F1 Berlinetta (the interior features the later airbag steering wheel, paddle shifters and a 355 F1 badge).

Anyone notice other glaring inaccuracies in the Forza 6 car models?

That’s the #1 reason why I didn’t get FM6. Some models like the Golf R32 or Skyline R32 are straight taken over from Forza 2. A game released 2007.

I noticed similar things in GT6. Like the 300ZX model has both a cruise-control steering wheel from an earlier car, and the cruise-control stalks from the later airbag-equipped cars. It can’t have both!

Doesn’t detract from the game though :)

The Integra Type-R’s fuel/temp gauges are backwards when the engine fires up and it has the 24-hour JDM clock instead of the proper 12-hr clock. I recall seeing the Integra Type-R the Forza team modeled for sale on Honda-Tech a few years back.

Yeah I’m not too hung up on the actual equipment details like the wrong steering wheel or a backwards gauge.

But when I want to see some awesome cars battling in a race that would be impossible to organise in real life, I really wish the cars would look right at least on the outside.

For all the shadow glitches and other graphics issues on GT6, they did get the exterior car models spot on. The raw feeling and fantastic engine noises of Forza, however, are a BIG plus. That and the much more eclectic choices of cars.

Still one of the older models that got res’d up for the later games without fixing the issues. Unlike T10 claims, not all cars were remodeled for Forza5/6.

One thing they did fix from Forza 4 was the cloned front/rear wheels. On cars like the Ferrari F50, there is a significant difference in concave “dish” between the front and rear.

True, they had the same wheels on all 4 corners in the earlier games because each of them would just be an instance of the front wheel, which significantly lowered the polycount/resources needed to render the model. Compared to fixing the modeling errors this was a very easy and quick fix.

I’ve never played modern Forza, I just can’t justify buying an Xbox for one game. But I want that game bad.

To me, it’s a heck of a lot better than NOT having a game like Forza 6.

The biggest design inaccuracy issue I have with the series is definitely with the F355’s roofline. It’s my favorite Ferrari, and it makes me cringe when viewing it during the replays and seeing the botched roofline.

How no one on the Turn 10 team has noticed or fixed this obvious flaw for the last two or three sequels is just mind boggling to me.

I got the xbone just for forza. Have no regrets. Poor now, but oh well.

I would too if I didn’t already have a PS4 and a long list of games I wish to play. I wish Gran Turismo would shape up :(
